How important is the Family? The answer is in the Torah portion of this week. The bible tells us that it is very important to keep the family peaceful. In chapter 18 of genesis the 3 angels came to Abraham to tell him he is going to have a son. Sarah was in the tent behind and laughed saying:” How can I have a child when my husband is an old man”. But G-d, when speaking to Abraham says: “Why did Sarah laughed saying how can I have a child and I am old”. G-d changed the words of Sarah to keep the peace in the family, today; we call it “white lies” In chapter 21 of Genesis, Sarah asks Abraham to send his second son, Ishmael, and his mother, Hagar, to the desert. Abraham did not like it, but G-d said to him “Do what ever Sarah says to you” (Genesis 21:12) Again, G-d himself wanted to keep the peace in the Family. The Jewish traditions say that if a husband and wife live peacefully “The Sechina” (The spirit of G-d) is with them.
So, how important is the peace in the family? Very important. So important that G-d himself interfered in different ways to keep the peace.
